Savannah events that include our pets

Posted March 11, 2010

There are great things going on in Savannah for pet lovers and some include doing them with your pets. Check out the list of things to do. One main thing is the Tybee Dogs on the Beach group is getting into the ST. Patricks Day parade on Saturday the 13th. You can walk in it with your dog and permote St. Patricks Day and allowing dogs on the beach. It should be a great event. Maybe we will see you there.

pet pages photo contests

Posted March 11, 2010

OK, a lot to say today. I have the #29 contest results, the #30 contest results and we have #32 contest underway. I want to start by saying I'm extremely late with the #29 results as I forgot to notify the winners. My bad! THen I was late getting the #30 results and the new #32 contest up. I had a stupid minor accident in my truck Monday morning that royally screwed up my Monday. Then not going to work on Tuesday due to the doctor stating I needed to be at home, was a joke. BUt I'm back and all is fine. I just wanted everyone to know why I was late, and not to get a pitty party about it all. I'm fine and my truck has over $5000 in damages. That part I'm bummed about. OK off to the contest results.

You have to check out Newman and LeGrain that won the "Pet Pages" photo contest #29. They are so cute on the beach laying together. It is truly an awsome picture. Then look at Horton, a rescue, that needs a furever home. Check it out.

In the "Pet Pages" photo contest #30, Rolley won the contest and with that face who could have said no. He was such a cutie in that picture. You will also see Cleo, a rescue, that is in need of a furever home, and has the most beautiful markings.

There are great pictures in the new #32 photo contest. You have Precious and peanut dressed again, you have Newman licking salt from his nose, Bill letting his bed mate know that was his side of the bed, a wolfhound sitting by the river and a beautiful Leonberger bouncing thru the snow. Also check out Gallagher from the Coastal Pet Rescue and Possom from the Humane Society for Greater Savannah that are available for adoption.

News update on valentine, cat shot with dart

Posted March 3, 2010

News update on Valentine, tha cat that was shot in the eye with the dart. She was shot but it did not kill her spirit. She is doing much better and getting along with one eye.  Her health is doing good and the veterinarian is very pleased in her decision in saving this poor cat. In New Jersey with an animal brought in under that type of comdition, it is recommended that the animal be out down instantly. Dr. Morrissey did not believe that was an option. She had to try. Dr. Morrissey is a hero as well as everyone else that has helped with Valentine.

Joyce is the greatest for allowing Valentine to come into her home so she could foster her until adoption. This way Valentine can get the extra special care she needs while waiting for adoption. Take a look at her and you will want her too. Please, if your in the New jersey area and wanting a special cat to invite into your home to provide a nice, safe and loving environment, then take a look at Valentine. She is not handicapped, but rather just special.

valentine the cat shot in the eye

Posted March 3, 2010

Valentine is doing great and is adapting to only having one eye. She is being well cared for by Joyce at the Joa's Arc Rescue. I will have all the details in a new article for tomorrow but just wanted everyone to know she is doing good. She is still in need of a new furever home, but her recovery is good.

Rocky the underdawg get a second chance

Posted March 3, 2010

Rocky was an underdawg in every sence of the word. He was at the Savannah Chatham Animal Control which is a high kill facility. He was not being adopted and several hours away from being put to death. Iron Underdawgs came through by getting a rescue shelter to post his bail and get him out of jail. They worked to get him transported by the Pilots-n-Paws again. My friend James came to the rescue and helped with yet another dog and of course pictures along the way. This is so nice for people to come together for the common good of one animal.

Rocky has a long road ahead of him with being underfed and heartworm positive. He was abandoned behind his home when they moved. He was alone for a long period of time without food. He now has to get the heartworms gone, get meat back on his poor bones and get plenty of attention along the way.

Tybee beach is sticking to no dogs on the beach

Posted March 1, 2010

Tybee beach is still sticking to saying no dogs on the beach! Bill Gillespie gave his speech and presented his plan but they just looked on and said nothing to help the situation. They basically responded to the request by stating it will trash up the beach and hurt the birds. They are not comprimising in any way. Typical council thinking, "If it isn't broke, then don't fix it". Well it is broke Mr. Council. We want our beloved dogs to enjoy the beach with us but you say no. Set in your ways and not wanting to budge about your opinion. That is what it boils down to - their opinion. They do not want studoes done, they do not want to see facts, they have their own opinion of what could happen and what may have happend elsewhere and that is it. They seem very closed-minded.

Poor doggies will just have to wait. Bill and his group are not giving up though. So until the next meeting. Doggie Up People!

Valentine the cat with a dart in her eye

Posted February 24, 2010

Poor Valentine, a cat, that was shot in the eye with a dart. This is horrible. People that torture animals are just cowards. They feel they can hurt aniamls cause it does not really matter to them. Try that on a human and go to prison you coward! I have serious issues with people that display animal cruelty. It is people like this that start with animals and then move to children or women. This cat had the will to live and has recovered from this horrible and traumatic event. HA HA to the person who did it. This cat had nine lives and did not die. Good for the cat but bad for you. You will be caught eventually for this or whatever you eventually do later on.

I say thank you to people like Jen from the Joa's Arc rescue for taking in poor Valentine and providing her with a little R&R while recovering. I know they are not the shelter that will adopr her out but you are the shelter that has been gathering donations for her surgeries. You are better people than most for what you do and the service you provide to the local shelters around you. I also thank the Barbi Twins and Ken Wahl for taking time out of their busy schedules to provide me a comment about little Valentine.

Thank you again to all involved with Valentine.

Cat hoarder in Elkhart has over 52 cats in her home

Posted February 24, 2010

A 76 year old woman was an animal hoarder and a hoarder of sorts. She had over 52 cats living in her home and was living in such filth that the officers that were there stated it was unfit for an animals much less a human. She was having problems turning away cats and when they were breeding they just got out of control. The woman thought she was helping but just got overwhelmed. Adult Services got involved with her care and concerns and now she is living with some of her family. THis is such a sad story as I could see how it could happen so quickly. Simeone that lives by them self wants a companion, so she gets a cat. The a stray come around and she takes it in and another and another. Now having 4 cats is not a problem, but having 4 non-sterile cats is. With as fast as they breed and someone not knowing what to do with them except keep them the numbers grow considerably.

If this woman had family then they should have been checking up on her and they should have seen what was going on and should have stopped this before it got so bad. This type of problem does not appen over night.

Iowa has a new puppy mill bill

Posted February 24, 2010

Thank you Iowa for passing a new puppy mill bill. This bill is something that is needed in all states but not only needs to be there but enforced. there is nothing like having a law but then no one actually enforces it or the penalty is nothing severe enough to discourage people from doing it in the long run. This bill passed the Senate vote and is now awaiting the Governor's signature.

This bill is strictly for the commercial breeders of dogs and cats and does not affect anything to do with livestock or even the greyhound racing  breeders. I think it is a good hing and it should help with puppy mills by making them accountable for proper feeding, housing, veterinarian care and many other areas that should actually be part of their normal care but in many cases are not. Poor puppies!
